http://www.directionservice.org/cadre/IDEApartnership.cfm

Description

This interactive workshop was collaboratively designed and delivered by CADRE and the IDEA Partnerships of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education. A cross-disciplinary mix of experienced dispute resolution professionals lead an integrated didactic and experiential day long (morning and afternoon sessions) program. The workshop's morning session focused on collaborative problem solving and included a theoretic/applied examination of participants' historic/present styles for fielding and responding to conflict. Requisite skills for 'listening to understand' was presented/practiced, and in-depth treatment of 'positions and interests' culminated with strategies for de-positioning and included a role-play. The afternoon session, building on the morning's foundation, provided an introductory skills-based orientation to facilitation, and utilized IDEA Partnership experts and Dialogue Guides to contextualize IEP facilitation in the larger schema of collaborative problem solving in education. Resources for additional information and targeted networking/collaboration were identified.

Participants are better prepared to:

  • Learn varying approaches to conflict resolution and have an increased understanding of their personal/preferred conflict resolution styles.
  • Differentiate 'positions' from 'interests' and to apply that knowledge in service of building agreement.
  • Understand the continuum of dispute resolution processes.
  • Discuss the resources of CADRE and the IDEA Partnerships.
