Center Overview
The National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities (NDPC-SD) aims to increase rates of school completion by students with disabilities, emphasizing dropout prevention for enrolled students and re-entry into education by students who have dropped out of school The Center will organize and apply a network of multiple sources of knowledge and support, will interact and collaborate with key organizations and networks providing programs and professional services, and will utilize the expertise of other key researchers and practitioners in a network of "Exchange Team Experts" to offer complementary outreach activities and resources relevant to dropout prevention strategies.
Methods
NDPC-SD focuses on three major interacting areas: (a) knowledge development, including synthesis of existing research and best practice data and information exchanges between researchers and practitioners; (b) technical assistance, providing guidance and assistance to state education agencies and local programs in collecting quality data and designing, implementing, and evaluating effective dropout prevention programs; and (c) communications and dissemination, promoting knowledge development research activities through a wide range of professional networks and media outlets to bridge research and practice. The Center partners with the Educational Development Corporation, Inc. and the Intercultural Development Research Association to carry out these activities.
