Center Overview

PEPNet-South is member of the Postsecondary Education Programs Network and one of four regional centers that help secondary and postsecondary institutions more effectively address the postsecondary, vocational, technical, continuing, and adult education needs of individuals who are deaf. The primary goal of PEPNet-South is to expand and enhance transition services and access to postsecondary educational opportunities for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing through personnel development activities, technical assistance and dissemination activities, and technology use activities.

Methods

Through a central office and five outreach sites across the region, PEPNet-South offers professional development opportunities for secondary, postsecondary, vocational, and adult education professionals and support staff regarding transition and postsecondary educational services for students who are deaf, strives to establish a technical assistance network with the target groups, and demonstrates how technology can be used to provide access to and accommodations within programs for individuals who are deaf. Through the project objectives, the PEPNet-South will (a) conduct a needs assessment to determine the needs, directions, and innovations in effective service delivery; (b) provide personnel development and technical assistance activities to enhance and expand postsecondary education services, including the availability and application of technology; (c) disseminate information about evidence-based practices; (d) collaborate with and coordinate services within the state, regional, and national venues; and (e) evaluate the impact, effectiveness, and results of the services provided. Activities will be coordinated with the other PEPNet regional centers.
