Center Overview

Partners Resource Network serves as the regional parent technical assistance center (RPTAC) for the funded Parent Centers in OSEP’s Region 3. Members of the region include Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) and Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) in eight states and two territories: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The mission of the RPTACs is to strengthen the infrastructure, enhance the effectiveness, and increase the capacity of parent centers to educate and support families of children with disabilities. In addition, the RPTACs assist parent centers to collaborate with national, state and local education systems and members of the OSEP TA&D network. The administrative offices of Partners Resource Network are located in Beaumont, Texas.

Methods

The RPTAC project will assist the Parent Centers in their efforts to provide training and information to parents of children with disabilities that will enable the parents to advocate effectively for their children’s education. The technical assistance provided to the Parent Centers will address a variety of topics and issues, including: nonprofit management, outreach to diverse populations, collaboration and partnership between schools and parents and between parent centers and state agencies, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and the No Child Left Behind Act. The PTAC will also assist centers in collaborating with other technical assistance networks, research and dissemination projects, institutions of higher education, and other resources. The PTAC will help each Parent Center and increase their knowledge and skills, evaluate their programs and services, and build their capacity as an organization. PTAC services will include individual consultations, needs assessments, teleconferences, webinars, site visits, an annual regional conference, a web site, and resources.
